Ansel Adams

Ansel Adams

Ansel Adams was a nature photographer who became increasingly popular in the late 1920’s and early 1930’s. He was a wilderness preservation advocate and is often seen as a symbol for the American west1.

Adams believed in the power of black and white photography2.His signature black and white photos described the time period perfectly. They were simple and conservative—how most people had to live at this time. His nature shots showed an appreciation for what people could not control. They were an optimistic outlook on life. Even when the economy seemed unbearable, nature was still there and as beautiful as ever.

An Example of Ansel’s Photography

Thanks to Adams, a lot of nature has been protected for years after his involvement. His photographs allowed people to see certain area’s beauty and the necessity to preserve them. His push for environmental awareness continues to affect us today. He was the first to bring out nature’s beauty, and now there are multiple regulations to protect it. His photographs caused this and therefore made history.
